Mark Peterson (’85) is the top quarterback in Nebraska Wesleyan history. The three-year starter and letterwinner set the school record for career completions with 447 and is still the school’s all-time leader in total offense with 6,327 yards. He also holds the career records for passing yards with 5,921 and 69 touchdown passes. During the 1983 season Peterson led the Plainsmen to the NIAC championship and completed a record 173 passes for 2,694 yards and 29 touchdowns. He was named the NAIA National Player of the Week with a 400-yard, seven-touchdown performance in a 49-25 win over ninth-ranked Midland Lutheran College. His senior year he was a Second-Team NAIA All-American and an Honorable Mention AP Little All-American. He then signed a contract to play professional football with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.
