Hall of Fame
Greg Peterson (’84) was a letterwinner in both football and basketball during his athletic career at Nebraska Wesleyan. Peterson played basketball four years and earned All-NIAC honors as a sophomore and junior. He was the team’s leading scorer during the 1980-81 season with 15.8 points per game. Emergency surgery ended Peterson’s final year of basketball after nine games, but the basketball team’s loss was the football team’s gain. Peterson joined the football team in 1982 and became an All-American wide receiver, setting school records for career receptions with 105 and career receiving yards with 1,705 in two seasons. During the 1983 season, the Stromsburg, Neb. native broke the Wesleyan season records for receptions with 59 and receiving yards with 1,104. Peterson was named a First-Team NAIA All-American and Second-Team Associated Press Little All-American, while twice earning First-Team All-NIAC and All-NAIA District 11 honors. Peterson then went on to play professional football with the USFL’s Houston Gamblers. He is currently an assistant football coach at Kansas State University.
