Don Hoelting (Kearney, Neb.) was known as Nebraska Wesleyan’s “Mr. Everything” during his four-year baseball career for the Plainsmen from 1980-83 playing multiple positions on the diamond.

Hoelting started his storied career by earning 2nd-Team NCAA III All-American honors at second base in his freshman season of 1980.  He batted a career best .362 that season with three triples and 11 stolen bases while playing amazing defense in the infield.

He would go on to earn 1st-Team All-NIAC honors all four years of his career.  He was selected All-NIAC at utility player as a senior in 1983, selected in the outfield in 1981 and 1982 and at second base in 1980.  He remains one of just four NWU baseball players to be a 4-time 1st-Team All-Conference selection.

At the conclusion of his career he was second in NWU history with 140 games played and set the school record with 425 career at-bats.  His name still appears on the NWU all-time charts for career games, career at-bats and career triples.  Hoelting also pitched for the Plainsmen and recorded four saves in 1982, the second highest single season total at NWU.
