Nebraska Wesleyan University is situated in a thriving, secure city with a population of around 300,000, which offers many of the cultural and entertainment advantages of a much bigger city while yet having a sense of a welcoming Midwestern community. Lincoln is one of the Midwest's fastest-growing metro regions. It has more parks per capita than Austin, Portland, and all but a small number of American cities, a large (and expanding) network of bike trails, a wide variety of career options, and a reasonable cost of living.
A city with global connections, Lincoln has been nicknamed the "Silicon Prairie" and provides countless opportunities for internships and jobs. Companies in the sports industry, like Hudl and Opendorse, call Lincoln home. Other national companies including Sandhills Publishing, Ameritas, and Spreetail have headquarters here. Lincoln also boasts thriving health care, banking, and insurance industries, as well as being the home of the state government. Lincoln Municipal Airport is 10 minutes from downtown while Eppley Airfield in Omaha, which is just 50 miles away, offers additional flights.
With a big-city vibe and authentic hometown feel, Lincoln's Historic Haymarket District is second to none and just minutes away from NWU. Pinnacle Bank Arena is located in the Historic Haymarket District and has hosted major concerts like Garth Brooks, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry, Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, Kenny Chesney, Lil' Wayne, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Pink, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, and many more. It has also hosted an NCAA Women's Basketball Championship and NBA Preseason Game. Additionally, the Haymarket District offers numerous restaurants, cafes, shops, nightlife, and a seasonal Saturday Morning Farmers Market.
Nebraska Wesleyan's campus sits in Lincoln's University Place, home to many locally owned businesses, shops, and restaurants. University Place also features the Lux Center for the Arts, which is an art gallery and store representing the highest caliber work of local, regional, and national artists, exhibited in more than 18 shows annually.
