Porter (49') was a three-year letterwinner and an outstanding lineman, helping the Nebraska Wesleyan football team compile a 20-4-4 record in the late 1940s. Porter started at tackle for the undefeated 1946 team that went 7-0-3 and was invited to the only bowl game in Wesleyan history. The 1946 Plainsmen lost to Pepperdine University 38-13 in the Will Rogers Bowl on Jan. 1, 1947. In 1947 he was a starting lineman for the 7-1-1 Plainsman that won the Nebraska College Conference Championship.
