ST. LOUIS, Mo. (February 28, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Fontbonne University (2-1). The Griffins won a high-scoring first game, 12-11, and took game two 11-2.

Game One Recap
After Fontbonne jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three innings, NWU scored in the fourth on a double by Aaron Nichols to plate Mason Bennett, who scored three runs for the Prairie Wolves. Nebraska Wesleyan's comeback continued in the fifth as Kaleb Knox hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 6-5. Will Schneidewind and John Haimowitz hit back-to-back doubles before Bennett recorded a sacrifice fly to drive in Haimowitz and gave NWU its first lead at 7-6.

The Griffins reclaimed the lead with a two-run double before Nebraska Wesleyan jumped back into the lead with two runs in the seventh. Aaron Nichols started the seventh with a walk and scored off a Riley Ward double. Haimowitz then drove in Ward as the Prairie Wolves held a 9-8 lead until the bottom of the eighth when Fontbonne scored four runs.

NWU tried to rally in the top of the ninth as Derek Kolbush scored on another Haimowitz single and Knox hit a liner to cut the lead to 12-11. His attempt at a triple was called out to end the game.

Game Two Recap
After taking a 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, a two-run home run gave Fontbonne a 3-0 advantage. NWU chipped away at the lead when Mason Bennett crossed the plate on a groundout by Noah Unger to pull within two. However, the Griffin's responded with eight runs in the bottom of the second.

Daniel Hundley, Wyatt Stute, and Josh Seifert all tossed one inning of relief work apiece, allowing no runs and no hits to stifle Fontbonne's offense in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, respectively.
