SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- The Nebraska Wesleyan track & field teams had some personal best marks with several athletes earning All-Conference recognition as the Prairie Wolves men finished 4th and the women 6th at the 2015 GPAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Sioux Center, Iowa.
NWU scored 85 points on the men's side and took over fourth place on the final race of the day. Concordia University won the championship with 184.5 points. For the NWU women, they scored 74 points to earn 6th place. Doane College ran away with the team title with 225 points.
Brock Taute was the lone NWU athlete to win an event as he was the 2015 GPAC Champion in the 3,000 steeplechase. Taute ran a time of 9:37.07 to win the race by over 20 seconds. Taute came back later in the day to earn GPAC Runner-up honors with a 2nd place finish in the 5,000 meters. He ran a time of 15:24 in the 5,000 to complete his successful day.
Freshman
Jordan Flemington was very impressive in his first GPAC Outdoor Championships. Flemington finished 2nd place in the 100 meters, was 5th in the 200 and ran on the 4th place 4x100 team. In the 100 meter dash, Flemington ran a time of 10.60, the second fastest time in NWU school history in the 100 meters. His time is the fifth fastest mark in NCAA III this season. He ran a 21.86 in the 200 meters to earn fifth place in that event.
Garrett Sellhorst was the other top two placer for the Prairie Wolves. Sellhorst had a career-best leap of 47-8 in the men's triple jump to place 2nd in the event. Sellhorst now ranks ninth in NCAA III and enters the all-time charts with the 10th best leap in school history.
The 4x400 relay team placed 2nd to help the Prairie Wolves move up to fourth place in the team race. The group of
Tanner Dewey, Zach Holka,
Justin Moerer and
Garrett Teel ran a time of 3:15.28.
Moerer placed 5th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.11 while
A.J. Farrand had a career-best mark of 15-5 in the men's pole vault to place 3rd in the event and move into 9th all-time at NWU. Farrand also took home 6th place in the triple jump.
The NWU women were led by
Samantha Dolezal and
Katie Krick who placed in multiple events on the day.
Dolezal was 3rd in the discus with a toss of 143-6, took 3rd in the shot put with a mark of 47-1 and finished 5th in the hammer throw at 162-9.
Krick was the highest NWU placer finishing as GPAC Runner-up in the 400 meters. Krick ran a time of 56.62 in the event. She then came back later in the day to run a career-best time of 25.15 in the 200 meters to place 4th. That time is fourth on the NWU all-time charts and ranks in the top 25 of NCAA III. Krick ran on the 4x100 and 4x100 relay teams that both placed 4th.
Jaime Larsen placed third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:46.82 while teammate
Gabi Jenkins was 5th in the event. Jenkins also placed 5th in the steeplechase.
