LINCOLN, Neb. -- In their first home meet of the outdoor season, the Nebraska Wesleyan University track & field teams dominated the rest of the field at the 2015 Prairie Wolf Outdoor Invitational that was held on Saturday (April 18) at Woody Greeno Track.
NWU ran away from the other four schools in the team race with the Prairie Wolves men scoring 319 points and the women scoring 279. Nebraska Wesleyan won 12 total individual events (6 track, 6 field) on the men's side and 11 individual events (5 track, 6 field) in women's competition.
Two NWU athletes won three events on the day, both of them in throwing events.Â
Samantha Dolezal won the hammer throw, shot put and discus for the Prairie Wolves women as a 3-event winner. Dolezal set a new personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 167-3 to move up to 2nd all-time at NWU and now ranks 12th in NCAA III. Dolezal won the shot put with a toss of 45-6 and the discus with a mark of 150-0.
Sean Lindgren won three throwing events for the NWU men as he was the individual winner also in the shot put, discus and hammer throw. Lindgren broke his own school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 174-9, the sixth best mark in the GPAC. He won the shot put with a 43-10 throw and the discus in a mark of 137-11.
Freshman Jordan Fleminton had an impressive day on the track for the NWU men winning both sprint events. Flemington won the 100 meters in 10.86 and the 200 in 20.06. Sophomore
Garrett Teel won the 400 in a season-best time of 48.6 to move up to 2nd on the GPAC performance list and enter the top 20 of the NCAA III list.Â
Tanner Dewey then took home the title in the 800, crossing the finish line at 1:54.39 which is also the second fastest time in the GPAC.
NWU men that also won events include
Justin Moerer (400 hurdles),
Malik Morris (High Jump),
Garrett Sellhorst (Triple Jump) and
Kyle Schoen (Javelin).
For the NWU women,
Katie Krick continued her successful sophomore season by winning the 400 meters. In the first time she competed in the 400 in the outdoor season, Krick ran a time of 57.42 for the 5th fastest time in school history.
