HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1

  • Nebraska Wesleyan defeated the Storm with effective pitching and top-notch defense for their first conference victory of the year.
  • In the win, Noah Unger made his sixth start of the year on the mound. He did his job perfectly, tossing a complete game shutout.
  • The five runs scored by the NWU offense were more than enough thanks to the outstanding work on the mound. Aaron Chazin opened the scoring in the second inning with an RBI single, and Dylan Howell made it 3-0 in the third inning with a two-RBI double. The Prairie Wolves posted a run in the fifth on a sac fly from John Haimowitz, and another in the ninth on a RBI fielder's choice from Hunter Zielasko.
  • The win is Coach Eric Ignatowski's first A-R-C conference victory since being named head coach in November.

GAME 2

  • Both pitchers got going right away, with P-Wolves starter Robbie Ross dismantling the Storm in his debut start.
  • In the top of the fourth, Kaleb Knox would ignite the Prairie Wolves' offense. Knox hit a single to left field and Hunter Zielasko would score on an error.
  • Max Brammier relieved Ross of his duties in the bottom of the fifth. Brammier threw four innings, while giving up four hits, two runs and securing the win.
  • The Storm would get one in the bottom of the seventh before the Prairie Wolves capitalized, putting two on the board in the top of the eighth. During the eighth, John Haimowitz hit an RBI single to make the score 3-1. Haimowitz hit his team-high 18th RBI on the season.
  • RBI singles by Aaron Chazin and Alex Angele extended the Prairie Wolf lead to 5-2 in the top of the ninth.
  • Bryson Knapp was called in for the save and after a walk Knapp would retire the Simpson batters in order to secure the victory.
