Baseball Claims Two Victories in Home Opener; Breaks Single Game Scoring Record with 36 Runs

Game 1
  • Nebraska Wesleyan University won big over North Central University (MN) 36-1 in Game 1 of their home opener.
  • In the first inning, the Prairie Wolves got their offense started. Kaleb Knox singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
  • NWU notched ten runs in the sixth inning.  Aaron Chazin, Antonio Robles, Jake Renner, Tyler Merkel, Owen Machal each drove in runs during the inning.
  • Tyson Romero earned the win for the black and gold. Romero went five innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out 11.  Dominic Sis and Austen King entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan University smacked four home runs on the day. Evan Kling got the party started with a no doubter in the first inning. Kaleb Knox, John Haimowitz and Dylan Howell all went deep in the third inning.
  • The Prairie Wolves finished with 23 hits on the day.
Game 2
  • Alex Angele showed timely hitting on Sunday, driving in five on two hits to lead Nebraska Wesleyan University past North Central University (MN) 16-5 on Sunday. Angele drove in runs on a double in the second, a home run in the third, and a walk in the fifth
  • The Prairie Wolves pulled away for good with seven runs in the third inning. In the third, John Haimowitz singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, Noah Unger tripled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, Jason English singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and Angele homered on a 3-2 count, scoring three runs.
  • Alejandro Espinoza earned the win for NWU. The pitcher allowed six hits and five runs over three and a third innings, striking out two. Max Brammier and Robbie Ross entered to close out the game in relief.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan University tallied 13 hits.
  • Haimowitz, English, Unger, Angele, and Kaleb Knox each had multiple hits for the black and gold. Haimowitz led the Eric Ignatowski led squad with three hits in five at bats.
