Track Teams Win Grinnell Invitational


GRINNELL, Iowa (February 12, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan men's and women's track and field teams won the Grinnell Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa. NWU's men's team won the team title with 177 points and the women's team title with 138 points.

The Prairie Wolves had a number of key performances that led to the team titles. Mason Coulter won the men's mile race with a time of 4:22.89, edging out Norbert Weijenberg by less than a second. Kyle Dickinson ran to the title in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 49.90. Garrett Lenners won his fourth consecutive men's 800-meter run crown with a time of 1:53.86, which set a new meet record as well as being one of four NWU runners in the top five. 

In the men's 4x400-meter relay, Nebraska Wesleyan won by six seconds. The team consisted of Dickinson, Lenners, Gabe Anderson, and Ben Christenson. Kyle Ott anchored the throwing events. Ott won the men's shot put with a mark of 15.39 meters. Spencer Fortune jumped to the title in the men's triple jump with a mark of 12.76 meters.

Bre Geary claimed the individual title in the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 8.05. Reagan Janzen raced to the title in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.06, just three seconds ahead of Gabby Thomas. For Janzen, it was the third straight meet of winning the 800-meter run. 

The women's distance medley relay team of McKenna Marsh, Ellen Dalton, Camryn Larsen, and Gabby Thomas cruised to the top of their race with a time of 12:54.03, nearly 30 seconds faster than the next team. Another relay team took gold for the Prairie Wolves when the women's 4x400-meter relay team won their event. The team of Janzen, Isabella Hilger, Isabella Hogue, and Alexa Koza ran a new meet record time of 3:55.09, which is currently fourth in NCAA Division III.

NWU swept the top three spots and took four of the top five places in the women's triple jump. Tessa Hoffman won the event with a mark of 11.01 meters followed by Addie Thomas and Grace Mueller with Alex Betancur in fifth.

Nebraska Wesleyan is scheduled to compete on Friday, February 18 in the Husker Tune-Up in Lincoln, Nebraska and the Loper Tune-Up in Kearney, Nebraska.
