Baseball Falls To Augustana College In Season-Opener

Box Score
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (February 27, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team made its return to the diamond for the time since March 13, 2020, due to the COVID-19 Global Health Pandemic. NWU fell to Augustana College (2-0), 10-6 in its return.

Augustana scored two runs in the first inning and never let the Prairie Wolves take the lead. AC added a run in the third and fourth innings before Nebraska Wesleyan got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. John Haimowitz dropped a check-swing single into right field to drive in Derek Kolbush with the first run of the season. Later in the inning, Kaleb Knox added a sacrifice fly, which allowed Will Schneidewind to score and pull NWU within two runs.

After Augustana added a run in the top of the sixth inning, Nebraska Wesleyan strung together a single from Riley Ward, a double by Kolbush, and another RBI single by Haimowitz, to again get within a run at 5-4. But a five-run eighth inning by the Vikings would be too much to overcome as the Prairie Wolves could only add two more runs in the ninth.
