SEWARD, Neb.- Nebraska Wesleyan placed fourth as a team in the men's race and sixth in the women's team race at the 2015 GPAC Indoor Track & Field Championships that were held Saturday (Feb. 21) in Seward, Neb.
NWU did not have any individual champions, but had several top placers. The men finished with 91 team points to place fourth with Doane totaling 177 for the title. Doane also won the women's team title with 222 points. NWU was 6th with 65.5 points.
Four Prairie Wolves were runner-up on the men's side. The tandem of
Brock Taute and
Tanner Brown had top three finishes in two distance races. In the mile, Taute was the runner-up crossing the line in 4:20.62 while Brown was third in 4:21.63. Taute and Brown were 2-3 in the 3,000 meters as well. Taute ran a time of 8:52.24 with Brown right behind at 8:56.00.
In the 600 meters, NWU had two men in the top four.Â
Tyler Janssen ran a 1:22.28 to finish as the runner-up with
Tanner Dewey taking 4th in 1:23.44.Â
Jordan Flemington placed 3rd in the 60 meters with a time of 6.99, while
Garrett Teel was 3rd in the 400 in 49.10. Teel, Zach Holka, Fleminton and Dewey teamed up to finish 2nd in the 4x400 relay in an exciting finish just behind Hastings.
The only NWU athlete to finish in the top three in field events was
Garrett Sellhorst who placed 3rd in the triple jump.
Nebraska Wesleyan placed 2nd in four different events in the GPAC women's track & field championships.Â
Katie Krick led the way by placing 2nd in the 400 in a time of 57.79. Krick was also 3rd in the 200 meters with a time of 25.97.Â
Ashton Rakow ran just her second race of the year and took 2nd in the 60 hurdles in a time of 9.10. Abbie Hunke was GPAC runner-up in the 600 meters with a time of 1:36.34. The final NWU runner to finish as GPAC runner-up was
Gabi Jenkins in the 3,000 meters with a time of 17:40.36.
Mary Andrew placed 4th in the high jump to lead the NWU women field events.
