Box Score 2 Lincoln, NE - Despite two strong efforts, Nebraska Wesleyan baseball was swept by Simpson, Tuesday evening. The Prairie Wolves lost game one 13-6, before falling in the second 14-7. With the losses, NWU moves to 7-18 on the season, and 2-7 in American Rivers Conference action.
GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
Simpson came out swinging in the first inning, scoring on an RBI single and sacrifice fly before turning to the long ball to build a 4-0 lead. The Storm increased their advantage to 5-0 in the third, then tacked on two more in the fourth. The bottom half of the inning saw
Gavin Crogg get the Prairie Wolves on the board with a double. Later in the inning,
Jake Shedarowich, cut the Storm lead to five with an RBI triple. However, the Storm quickly regained their seven run advantage with a two run fifth. In the bottom frame, the Prairie Wolves threatened, loading the bases with two outs, and scoring one run as
Brayden Harvey was hit by a pitch. The Prairie Wolf rally was quickly halted on a ground out and Simpson maintained a 9-3 lead. After allowing a run in the seventh,
Jake Shedarowich continued his impressive performance with a three run homer that pulled the Prairie Wolves within four in the eighth. However, NWU was unable to fully level the score as Simpson scored three in the top of the ninth, before holding the Black and Gold scoreless to secure a 13-6 win.
Jake Shedarowich had a standout game, posting three hits and finishing a double shy of the cycle. On the mound,
Owen Duckworth pitched four innings, allowing seven runs and striking out one batter.Â

GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the second game of the day, Nebraska Wesleyan and Simpson were deadlocked in a 0-0 battle through the first two innings. However the Storm surged in the middle innings, scoring five in the third, and following up with four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. During this time, the Prairie Wolves were only able to score one run, as
Duncan Ortega reached home after an error by Simpson. Despite the deficit, Nebraska Wesleyan continued to fight as
Ryan Ruggiero blasted a grand slam into the Nebraska night to pull the Prairie Wolves within eight in the sixth inning. Ruggiero's homer was followed up by RBIs from
Easton Johnson and
Brady Bell which made the score 13-7. Nebraska Wesleyan was unable to maintain its positive momentum as Simpson didn't allow another run over the remaining three innings and ultimately cruised to a 14-7 win.
