Duncan Ortega had the team's only hit and RBI, but Nebraska Wesleyan dropped a 3-1 American Rivers Conference baseball decision on the road to Simpson College on Tuesday evening on McBride Field in Indianola, Iowa. Junior right-hander
Owen Duckworth took the pitching setback on the mound. The visiting Prairie Wolves dropped to 5-15, overall, while the host Storm improved to 11-8 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
NWU scored one run on one hits with no errors, scoring their lone run in the third inning. Simpson scored three runs on six hits with no errors, scoring two runs in the second inning and one run in the fourth.
In the third,
Jack Carver led off getting hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a walk by freshman
Jaxon Volkmer. Designated hitter
Jake Shedarowich advanced them on a sacrifice bunt and their were runners on second and third with one out. Ortega provided an RBI on a sacrifice fly to center field that scored both Carver, but the Prairie Wolves still trailed 2-1.
Unfortunately, the Storm added an insurance run in the fourth to create the two-run margin that would hold the rest of the night.
Duckworth (L, 0-4) started on the mound for the Black & Gold and pitched the first 5.1 innings, scattering six hits and three runs, all earned, with one strikeout and two walks.
Tyler Spreitzer followed with the final 2.2 innings of relief, allowing no hits and no runs with three strikeouts and one walk.
