Johnson Powers Prairie Wolves to 27-12 Win as Baseball Earns Doubleheader Split with Howard Payne

Lincoln, NE - Easton Johnson's nine RBI day powered Nebraska Wesleyan to a 27-12 victory over Howard Payne in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. NWU would go on to lose game two 8-7. The Prairie Wolves now sit at 5-14 overall on the season.

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED

Nebraska Wesleyan took command of game one with an explosive 16 run first inning. The Prairie Wolves were led by the bats of Easton Johnson and Charlie Mosser, who combined for 10 RBIs. Both players hit a home run in the inning, with Johnson crushing a grand slam, and Mosser hitting a three run homer. Gavin Crogg and Brady Bell each had multi-RBI hits in the inning while Jake Shedarowich earned an RBI after being hit by a pitch. Howard Payne got three runs back in the second and third innings, but an Easton Johnson drove in three of Nebraska Wesleyan's five third inning runs to grow its lead to 21-3. The Yellow Jackets countered with a five run fourth, but Duncan Ortega helped NWU answer by driving in Gavin Crogg on a single. NWU would tack on another run as Cohle Sherman scored on a double play. Both teams would score four runs over the remaining three innings as Nebraska Wesleyan cruised to a 27-12 victory.

GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED

In game two it was Howard Payne that took control early scoring four runs in the game's opening three innings. The Yellow Jackets would extent their lead to 5-0 on a solo home run in the sixth. Nebraska Wesleyan would get on the board as Sam Schaefer drove in Duncan Ortega on an infield single. Gavin Crogg then put the Prairie Wolves within two as he crushed a three run homer. The Prairie Wolves would go on to take a 7-5 lead with a three run eighth that saw Jake Shedarowich, Easton Johnson, and Sam Schaefer earn RBIs. However the lead was short lived as Howard Payne scored three ninth inning runs and recorded three quick outs to earn an 8-7 victory.
