LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska Wesleyan men's and women's track and field teams split across three meets over a demanding weekend and returned with program history performances, event victories and multiple podium finishes, competing Friday and Saturday at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, Saturday at the Fred Beile Classic, and with one athlete racing at the Bearcat Invitational.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The weekend was highlighted by a breakthrough performance from sophomore thrower Lyndsie Bosquez at the Fred Beile Classic in Crete. Bosquez delivered a personal-best throw of 17.11 meters (56 feet, 1.75 inches) in the weight throw to win the event, a mark that ranks fifth in Nebraska Wesleyan program history and currently sits 11th nationally. The performance highlighted a strong throwing showing for the Prairie Wolves across the weekend.
Sophomore hurdler Jacob Young also turned in a standout two-meet effort. Competing Friday at the Husker Invitational inside the Devaney Center, Young recorded a small personal best of 8.25 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles prelims, moving him into sixth place on the program's all-time list. He returned to action Saturday at Doane and capped the weekend by winning the event, clocking an 8.27 in the finals.
At the Fred Beile Classic, Nebraska Wesleyan's depth was on full display with several top-three finishes across field events. Junior Aaliyah Franklin placed third in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.35 meters. In the men's pole vault, senior Graham Peterson cleared 4.40 meters to finish second, while freshman Angelina Schademann earned third in the women's pole vault with a vault of 3.25 meters.
Senior Colin Wojtkiewicz turned in a pair of third-place finishes in seeded throwing events, placing third in the men's shot put at 15.94 meters and third again in the seeded weight throw with a toss of 17.50 meters. Junior Emmilly Berglund added a third-place finish of her own in the women's seeded shot put, recording a throw of 13.06 meters.
Nebraska Wesleyan also collected strong performances in unseeded sections at Doane. Sophomore Ava Larmon placed second in the unseeded shot put with a mark of 12.69 meters. Sophomore Jonathan Lee recorded a toss of 16.09 meters in the unseeded weight throw, while freshman Makenna Meyer earned third in the unseeded women's weight throw with a throw of 15.59 meters.
At the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, the Prairie Wolves tested themselves against deep, national-caliber fields. Nebraska Wesleyan recorded a pair of top-eight finishes, led by the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Ainsley Galyen, Chloe Mooberry, McKenna Smith and Raegan Levi, which placed sixth with a time of 3:57.74. Senior Ghaith Taha narrowly missed advancing to finals in the 60 meters, finishing eighth overall with a time of 6.87.
The weekend concluded with one Prairie Wolf competing at the Bearcat Invitational in Maryville, Missouri. Conner Ross represented Nebraska Wesleyan in the 3,000 meters, placing 21st with a time of 8:46.02.
