Baseball to Open Season at Home Against Grinnell

Lincoln, NE - After an offseason of growth and anticipation, opening day has arrived for Nebraska Wesleyan baseball.

DATE, LOCATION, LIVE STREAM & LIVE STATS
Nebraska Wesleyan and Grinnell will play a four games over the course of Friday, February 27th, and Saturday, February 28th. First pitch for game one on Friday is set for 2:00 p.m., with game two to follow at 4:30. Saturday will see the teams face off at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. All four game will be played at Sandhills Global Youth Complex, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Nebraska Wesleyan will live stream each game and carry live stats.

ABOUT NEBRASKA WESLEYAN
Nebraska Wesleyan is looking to continue its momentum from 2025, where the team won 25 games and reach the A-R-C tournament championship game. The Black and Gold finished last season with a team slash line of .287/.426/.372. The PrairieWolves scored 289 runs on 441 hits and drove in 252 RBIS. NWU crushed 28 home runs and recorded 108 extra base hits. Nebraska Wesleyan played solid defense, maintaining a .942 fielding percentage and recorded 1,128 put outs on 1,591 attempts. On the mound, NWU's pitchers combined for a 6.22 ERA and tallied 313 strikeouts compared to 224 walks. NWU finished 2025 with seven American Rivers All-Conference selections. Third baseman Easton Johnson and Aaron Chazin were named second team all-conference, while Carter Betts, Tommy Fiocchi, Owen Duckworth, Robbie Ross, and Brady Bell were selected as honorable mention. In addition to his second team selection, senior Aaron Chazin was named to the ABCA Division III Region IX All-Defensive Team. 

HISTORIC OPENING DAY
This weekend marks the third time since 2006 that Nebraska Wesleyan has opened their season at home. The Prairie Wolves hosted season openers in 2008, and 2025 and hold a record of 3-1. The series also marks the first opening day week for Nebraska Wesleyan at Sandhills Global Youth Complex.

HEAD COACH JEFF CHRISTY
Jeff Christy is in his second year as the head coach at Nebraska Wesleyan. In his first season, Christy led the team to their first winning season since 2009 and helped NWU reach the A-R-C tournament championship game for the first time in school history.

SCOUTING GRINNELL
Grinnell opened their season with a pair of losses to Augustana and Central. The Pioneers have been outscored in their two games 36-7. Grinnell holds a team batting average of .276, with two home runs, seven RBIs, and seven runs scored. The Pioneers have a fielding percentage of .893 and a team ERA of 12.51.

SERIES HISTORY
Nebraska Wesleyan and Grinnell have nine prior matchups. The Pioneers lead the series 6-3.
