Wrestling Set for Thursday Night Dual with Buena Vista

Lincoln, NE - Nebraska Wesleyan wrestling is set to take on Buena Vista, Thursday night.

Nebraska Wesleyan and Buena Vista will do battle at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, January 15th. The match will be contested at Siebens Fieldhouse, in Storm Lake, Iowa. Buena Vista will live stream the match. 

ABOUT NEBRASKA WESLEYAN
Thursday will see Nebraska Wesleyan compete in its sixth dual match of the season. NWU is 2-3 in duals, with wins over Saint John's and Westminster. NWU is 0-3 against A-R-C opponents. The Black and Gold last competed at the Central Under Armour Invitational on January 3rd. 

HEAD COACH COLTON MCCRYSTAL
Colton McCrystal is in his second season as the head coach at Nebraska Wesleyan. Prior to his arrival at NWU, McCrystal was an assistant coach at the University of Nebraska, where he helped nine athletes reach the NCAA Division One national wrestling tournament in 2023-24. McCrystal also was an assistant at Morningside College, where he helped the team win the 2021 GPAC tournament championship.

REVIVAL OF NEBRASKA WESLEYAN WRESTLING
Nebraska Wesleyan holds a storied and resilient wrestling history that is split into two eras. The original NWU wrestling program existed from 1962 to 1981. During that time, the Plainsmen won the NIAC in 1973, 74, and 75, while posting a dual record of 94-136-7. The wrestling program was dropped at the conclusion of the 1980-81 season. Then in 2016, after over 40 years, the program was reactivated as Nebraska Wesleyan joined the IIAC. Since wrestling's return, the Prairie Wolves have posted a 23-81 record in dual action. The program saw Eron Haynes earn All-American honors in 2019 and 2021, while also excelling in the classroom with four academic All-Americans.

ABOUT BUENA VISTA
Buena Vista enters Thursday 3-6 after being dealt a 41-11 defeat by Millikin on January 3rd. The Beavers are led by Sean White, in his fifth season.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST BUENA VISTA
Nebraska Wesleyan and Buena Vista will meet for the 10th time, Thursday, with NWU owning a 5-4 series lead.
