Dylan Buschow Named NWU Head Wrestling Coach

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan University Director of Athletics Dwight Merilatt announced the hiring of Dylan Buschow as the next head coach of the Prairie Wolves wrestling program on Friday, July 10.

Buschow spent the last five seasons on the coaching staff at Southwest Minnesota State University, most recently as head assistant wrestling coach.

"Dylan Buschow is a great addition to our athletic staff at Nebraska Wesleyan," said Merilatt. "I know he will do a tremendous job guiding our wrestling program and I'm excited for the future under his leadership. He is a tireless worker and knows what it takes to recruit and build a competitive program in the American Rivers Conference."

Since 2021, Buschow has worked closely with all facets of the Mustang wrestling program, helping Caden Steffen earn his second NCAA Division II All-America honor. Buschow has also mentored 18 NWCA Scholar All-Americans in his five seasons in Marshall.

"I'm honored to lead the Nebraska Wesleyan Wrestling program, and I am grateful for Athletic Director Dwight Merilatt, and everyone involved in this search for believing in my vision," said Buschow. "This is an opportunity I don't take lightly, and returning to Nebraska to coach in my home state makes it even more meaningful."

"Our program will be built on a culture of development rooted in integrity, accountability, and a relentless work ethic," added Buschow. "We'll recruit young men who are passionate about wrestling and committed to becoming better teammates, students, and people every day."

Buschow also served as vice president and co-founder for the Mustang Wrestling Club from 2022-26, helping lead its athletes to state championships, national competition and All-American honors.

Prior to his time in Marshall, Buschow spent the 2020-21 academic year as a volunteer wrestling coach at Archbishop Bergan Catholic School in Fremont, Nebraska, where he helped guide three state qualifiers and one state placer.

Outside of coaching, Buschow is an M1 official with USA Wrestling, the organization's highest domestic rank, and holds a Category 3 Referee certification with United World Wrestling, the sport's international governing body.

Buschow began his collegiate wrestling career at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, before transferring to Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska, where he finished his wrestling career.

Buschow earned his bachelor's degree from Midland in 2020 and his master's degree in education with an emphasis sports leadership from Southwest Minnesota State University in 2023.

Dylan and his wife, Caitlyn, will relocate to the Lincoln area soon.
