Baseball to Host Hastings Tuesday, Before Visiting Buena Vista this Weekend

Lincoln, NE. (March 24, 2025) - Fresh off a 14-5 series finale victory over Loras, Nebraska Wesleyan is set to host Hastings College and visit Buena Vista. 

LOCATION, GAME TIME, LIVE STREAM, & LIVE STATS
Nebraska Wesleyan and Hastings are set to play at 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 25th.  Nebraska Wesleyan will live stream the game and carry live stats. Nebraska Wesleyan will then head to Storm, Lake, Iowa, for a three game series against Buena Vista. The two teams will play a single game on Friday, with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m.. Saturday will see the teams play a double header with game one set for 1:00 p.m., with game two to follow at 4:00 p.m. Buena Vista will live stream each game and carry live stats.

SCOUTING NEBRASKA WESLEYAN
Nebraska Wesleyan enters this week riding an 11-3 overall record, which was highlighted by a 8-0 start. Since the blistering start, NWU has cooled slightly, with a 3-3 record over its last six games, which includes a 14-5 victory over Loras last Sunday. Nebraska Wesleyan enters this week with a team slash line of .349/.437/.550. The Prairie Wolves have totaled 138 runs on 167 hits, with 15 home runs and 120 RBIs. Defensively, the Black and Gold hold a .943 fielding percentage. On the mound, Nebraska Wesleyan's pitchers have tallied 94 strike outs while posting a team ERA of 7.73. 

Nebraska Wesleyan's offense consists of multiple players that have the potential to deliver a standout performance. This includes Carter Betts who has recorded a team best 23 hits and four home runs. Teammate Easton Johnson has also emerged a breakout performer as he has posted a team high .440 batting average while driving in 25 runs. 

HEAD COACH JEFF CHRISTY
Jeff Christy is in his first season as the head coach at Nebraska Wesleyan. He holds an 11-3 record. Christy comes to NWU from Nebraska where he served as an assistant coach from 2019-2023. 

CULTURE SHIFT
Just 14 games into his tenure, Jeff Christy has already delivered a change in culture. Starting in the win loss column, NWU has already posted more wins (11) in 2025 than the Prairie Wolves had in all of 2024. This trend has been boosted by an increased team batting average (up .89 from 2024). NWU has also scored 138 runs and seems well on its way to surpassing the total of the 2024 team. 

NEBRASKA WESLEYAN BASEBALL TRADITION
Nebraska Wesleyan has won 23 conference championships with the most recent occurring in 2009. NWU's last tournament appearance occurred in 1982. Since joining the American Rivers Conference, the Prairie Wolves best finish is third in 2022. 

SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
Hastings enters Tuesday with a 4-17 record. The Broncos have lost their last two games. Hastings holds a slash line of .249/.332/.383, while scoring 88 runs on 151 hits. The Broncos are coached by Steve Maddock.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST HASTINGS COLLEGE
Tuesday will mark the 25th meeting between Nebraska Wesleyan and Hastings. The Broncos hold a 13-11 all time series lead.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Buena Vista enters this week with an 11-4 record. The Beavers will face Wartburg in a single game on Tuesday, March 25th. The Beavers carry a slash line of .282/.366/.427, while scoring 103 runs on 151 hits. Defensively Buena Vista holds a .974 fielding percentage, while the pitching staff has posted a respectable 3.32 ERA. The Beavers are led by Steve Eddie, in his 25 season.

This weekend will see Nebraska Wesleyan face Buena Vista for the 36th, 37th, and 38th times. The Beavers hold a commanding 27-8 all time series lead.
