Women's Basketball Set for Road Clash with Simpson, Before Returning Home to Face Wartburg

LINCOLN, Neb. (January 7th, 2025) - Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball is set to face Simpson College and Wartburg in a busy week of American Rivers Conference play.

LOCATION, GAME TIME, LIVE STREAM & LIVE STATS
Nebraska Wesleyan will visit Simpson College on Wednesday, January 8th. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The game will be played at Cowles Fieldhouse, in Indianola, Iowa. Simpson will live stream the game and carry live stats.
Nebraska Wesleyan will host Wartburg College on Saturday, January 11th. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The game will be played at Snyder Arena, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Nebraska Wesleyan will live stream the game and carry live stats.

ABOUT THE PRAIRIE WOLVES
Nebraska Wesleyan (1-11, 0-3 A-R-C), enters this week off a disappointing 64-26 loss to Loras last Saturday. The Prairie Wolves lone win came on December 31st, 2024, where NWU defeated Crown College 83-52. 

Through 12 games, the Prairie Wolves have displayed grit and resilience, averaging 53.7 points per game while allowing 73.8 points per game on the defensive end. The Black and Gold continue to build confidence on offense and look to improve upon their current shooting percentage of 34.9. The Prairie Wolves have shot a respectable 26.3% from beyond the arc, and shot a 67.2% clip from the free-throw line.

Nebraska Wesleyan averages 34.3 rebounds per game. The team also spreads the ball around on offense, recording 9.8 assists per game. Defensively, the Prairie Wolves are tenacious and apply constant pressure to their opponents, which has helped NWU force an average of 8.6 steals per game and tally 1.3 blocks per contest.

HEAD COACH JIM WIEDIE
Jim Wiedie is in his first season as head coach in 2024. He holds an 1-11 record as the head coach at NWU. Wiedie brings with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. Wiedie has amassed an overall coaching record of 311-226 across 19 years as a head coach at the NCAA Division I and II levels. Known for his strong player development, Wiedie will look to instill a winning culture at Nebraska Wesleyan.

Before joining the Prairie Wolves, Wiedie served as an assistant coach at the University of Nebraska Omaha, focusing on recruiting and player development. He also holds the distinction of being the all-time winningest coach at both the University of Findlay during their Division II era and Indiana State University, leading those programs to new heights.

SCOUTING THE STORM
Simpson enters this week with a record of (6-7, 2-2 A-R-C). The Storm score an average of 74.5 points per game, and allow an average of 70.7 points per game. Simpson holds a shooting percentage of 45.8, with a 38.7 mark from three. The Storm shoot a respectable 75.1% from the free throw line. The Storm are led by coach Brian Niemuth, in his 38th season.

Prior to visiting Nebraska Wesleyan, the Knights will face Dubuque on Wednesday, January 8th at 5:30 p.m. The Knights score an average of 69.8 points per game, and allow an average of 54.4 points per game. Wartburg holds a shooting percentage of 40.5, with a 28.8 mark from three. The Knights shoot a respectable 72.2% from the free throw line. Wartburg is led by coach Bob Amsberry, in his 19th season.
