Baseball Earns Split in Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lincoln, Neb. (April 20th, 2024)- The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team won one of two against Dubuque on Saturday. The Prairie Wolves earned a 7-6 game one victory but fell 8-0 in game two. 

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A  third inning Carter Betts triple scored Aaron Chazin and gave NWU a 1-0 lead. Betts would score later in the inning on a single from Brady Bell. Dubuque would cut the lead in half by scoring one run in the bottom half of the inning.
  • A fourth inning Jason English double drove in Brayden Scholfield and gave Nebraska Wesleyan a 3-1 lead. English would score on a Tyler Merkel's home run later in the inning.
  • Dubuque would make the score 5-3 by scoring one run in the bottom of the sixth.
  • A seventh inning Brady Bell single scored Carter Betts and made the score 6-3. Bell would score on an Evan Kling single later in the inning.
  • Dubuque fought hard to come back, scoring one run in the seventh, eighth, and ninth inning but were unable to find the tying run and Nebraska Wesleyan secured the 7-6 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Dubuque scored one run in each of the first three innings.
  • The Spartans would blow the game open by scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan was unable to score during the game as Dubuque took game two 8-0.

Nebraska Wesleyan returns to Lincoln to face Buena Vista on Tuesday, April 23rd, in a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. Game two is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
