Ninth Inning Rally Dooms Baseball in Loss to East Central

Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. (March 4th, 2024) - Nebraska Wesleyan suffered a heartbreaking 8-7 loss to East Central, Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

East Central got the scoring started in the second inning on an RBI single to make the game 1-0.
Nebraska Wesleyan responded in the top of the third with four runs. The first came on a single by Duncan Ortega that scored Jake Gerardis. Later in the inning, Ortega would score on a ground out by Evan Kling. Nebraska Wesleyan would then open up a three run lead on a two run home run by Jason English.
Nebraska Wesleyan would go up 5-1 in the fourth on an RBI ground out by Duncan Ortega.
The Prairie Wolves extended their lead in the sixth on an RBI single by Carter Betts. However, East Central immediately responded with a two run bottom half of the inning. After six innings of play the score was 6-3.
Nebraska Wesleyan regained a four run lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Aaron Chazin.
East Central would score one run in the bottom of the eighth to make the score 7-4 as the game entered the ninth inning.
After holding Nebraska Wesleyan scoreless in the top of the ninth inning, East Central rallied to score four runs in the bottom half to stun the Prairie Wolves and steal an 8-7 win.
Pitcher Tyson Romero went five innings and gave up four hits and one earned run. He had seven strikeouts and walked one batter. Austen King was credited with the loss.
