Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1

  • The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team rallied for 12 runs against University of Dallas to start Saturday's game, and the Prairie Wolves thrashed the Crusaders, 12-5, to start the series in Texas.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan led from the top of the second on thanks to recording lopsided numbers throughout the second and fourth innings. Four of the nine starters in the lineup collected multiple RBIs. Senior catcher John Haimowitz went 2-for-3 to lead the Prairie Wolf bats, including a two RBI double as part of their six-run fourth inning that stretched the lead.
  • Alejandro Espinoza, a right-handed starter, allowed five runs in four innings. After 92 pitches, he was replaced by reliever Max Brammier, who went four innings and struck out three.
  • In the top of the first inning, Kaleb Knox scored Zach Osbahr from second base with his first hit of the year to give the Prairie Wolves a 1-0 lead. The Prairie Wolf offense exploded in the next three innings as they held a 12-5 advantage through four.
  • Good pitching and good defense highlighted the final five innings as no runs were scored from either side.

Game 2

  • Nebraska Wesleyan's baseball team scored a run in three different innings to complete the Saturday sweep over U of Dallas Saturday afternoon in Texas.
  • With an RBI single up the middle, Evan Kling gave the P-Wolves the lead, making it 1-0. The Crusaders responded in the bottom of the fourth with a run to tie it at one apiece.
  • A Crusaders' miscue in the top of the fifth allowed Zach Osbahr to score, giving NWU the lead. Another error by the Crusaders led to Carter Betts making it home and a Prairie Wolves 3-1 lead in the eighth.
  • Tyson Romero, the starting pitcher for the Prairie Wolves, had a strong debut, tossing six innings while giving up just one run on two hits. Romero gave up just one walk while retiring seven opposing batters. The Prairie Wolf pitching staff struck out nine hitters while only issuing two walks in nine innings pitched.

HEAD COACH ERIC IGNATOWSKI'S COMMENTS

  • "We had some guys step up for us today especially on the pitching side. Max Brammier came in and put up the zeros we needed. Tyson Romero was in control the entire game. Noah Wing came in and shut the door for the final six outs."
  • "Offensively we had two big innings in game one where we were just finding the barrel. In game two we took advantage of some mistakes and played well enough defense behind good pitching."
  • "I'm proud of the way they battled against some adversity today."
