YORK, Neb. (March 24, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team fell to York College, 16-8, in a non-conference game played in York, Nebraska.

The NWU offense started on fire, scoring six runs in the first two innings. Derek Kolbush and Kaleb Knox, the first two batters of the game, opened the game with back-to-back home runs. Later in the inning, Alex Angele drove in John Haimowitz on a fielder's choice to make it a 3-0 advantage.

After York College tied it in the bottom of the first, Nebraska Wesleyan again put up three runs in the second inning. An error allowed Paul Georget to score the team's fourth run before a wild pitch plated Kolbush for his second run of the game. Haimowtiz also scored for the second time on Noah Unger's single that found a gap through the left side of the infield.

The Panthers again matched NWU with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. But the Prairie Wolves' offense hit a drought as YC added five runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Kaleb Knox put life back into Nebraska Wesleyan in top of the sixth inning. Knox drilled his second home run of the game, this one a two-run shot to make it an 11-8 York lead. However, NWU's offensive was quieted and held scoreless through the rest of the game.

Nebraska Wesleyan's first three batters (Kolbush, Konx, and Haimowitz) combined for all three NWU home runs, seven of the team's eight runs and seven of the team's 12 hits in the game.

Nebraska Wesleyan is off until Tuesday, March 29 when it returns to Lincoln for a midweek game to open conference play against Simpson College. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at NWU Field.
