SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Dordt College swept two games over Nebraska Wesleyan in a GPAC baseball doubleheader on Friday night in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Defenders won game one 8-2, then took the nightcap 12-6.
It marks the first time since 2007 that NWU has been swept by Dordt College in baseball. The Prairie Wolves had won 11 straight games over the Defenders dating back to 2010.
NWU managed just two hits through the first five innings of the first game as they fell behind 4-0. Finally in the 6th inning the Prairie Wolves got the offense going.Â
Aaron Ochsner led off with a single, followed by a walk from
James McKain.Â
Sam Ayars then singled to load the bases with no outs.Â
Pete Sitorius grounded into a double play to drive in one run.Â
Matt Orozco singled to right field to cut the lead in half at 4-2.
Dordt responded with four runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to secure the victory.
Nebraska Wesleyan finished with six total hits, led by
Sam Ayars and
Matt Orozco who both had two hits.Â
Jordyn Johnson took the loss on the mound allowing five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked three.
The Defenders took an early 1-0 lead in the second game as they plated one run in the bottom of the 1st. They would go on to score in three straight innings to lead 5-1.
NWU managed one run in the top of the 2nd, as
Tyler Winterstein hit an RBI single. The Prairie Wolves didn't score again until the 5th inning. Sam Ayards tripled to bring in
Justus Stocks and Ayars scored on an error to make the score 5-3.
In the bottom of the 5th, Dordt responded with three more runs to get the lead back to five. NWU scored one run in the 6th, but Dordt got four more runs in the 6th to put the game out of reach.
Tyler Winterstein led the NWU offense giong 2-4 with a double and two RBI.Â
Joe Babic also had two hits.
Nate Teitler took the loss for NWU allowing six runs, five earned in four innings of work.
