LINCOLN, Neb. -- 10th-ranked University of Jamestown posted a pair of shutout victories over Nebraska Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon in a snowy doubleheader played at NWU Field in Lincoln. Jamestown won the first game 4-0, then took game two, 13-0.
The games were played with temperatures below 40 degrees and snow showers throughout the games. Game two did have a 15-minute delay due to the heavy snowfall.
Jamestown got three runs in the 4th inning of game one to break open a scoreless contest. The Jimmies had an RBI double by Landon Uetz, then the big hit of the game was a 2-run home run over the left field wall by Tanner Ladlow. Jamestown added one more run in the top of the 7th inning.
NWU had just as many hits as the Jimmies with both teams recording six hits, but the Prairie Wolves couldn't come through with the big hit. All six of NWU's hits were singles.
The Prairie Wolves had a runner on third base in both the first and second inning, but couldn't bring them home.Â
Jamestown pitcher Tanner Dahl got the complete game shutout victory allowing just six hits. Dahl (6-0) was very efficient with seven strikeouts and no walks.Â
Jordyn Johnson had a solid outing for Nebraska Wesleyan pitching all seven innings. Johnson allowed six hits and four earned runs. He walked one and struck out one.
Game two was dominated by Jamestown as they pounded out 17 total hits and took advantage of four Prairie Wolves errors. NWU made several defensive mistakes in the field and could not muster up any offense at the plate.
Brad Bennet got the win on the mound for Jamestown allowing just three hits in six innings. He struck out three batters in the combined shutout. Nick Torres pitched the final inning.
Nate Teitler took the loss for NWU allowing five runs in 2 1/3 innings, but only one run was earned.
Nebraska Wesleyan had four hits on the game, all singles as they did not record an extra base hit on the day.
The two teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday afternoon starting at Noon.
