Box Score 2 Nebraska Wesleyan picked up its first doubleheader sweep of the season on Monday as the Prairie Wolves went on the road to take two games from Dordt College in a GPAC Baseball Doubleheader in Sioux Center, Iowa. NWU won the first game 3-2, then took the nightcap 6-3.
With the sweep, the Prairie Wolves improve to 4-18 overall and 3-5 in GPAC play to move up the league standings into a tie for fifth place after two weeks of conference games.
NWU got a strong pitching performance from
Justin Van Dyke as he threw a complete game allowing six hits and two runs while striking out three.
The Prairie Wolves were held without a hit the first three innings then got on the board in the 4th.
John Estudillo led off the inning getting hit by a pitch then would come around to score on a single by
Pete Sitorius.
Dordt responded with two runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to take a 2-1 lead. Estudillo hit an RBI single in the top of the 5th to tie the game at 2-2. NWU would get the game-winning run in the top of the 6th inning.
Colby McPike doubled to lead off the inning. A wild pitch by the Defenders allowed the winning run to score.
NWU had just five hits in the game with Estudillo, McPike, Sitorius,
Chase Powers and
Chris Johnson recording the base hits.
In game two, the Prairie Wolves jumped ahead 3-0 as they scored single runs in the 1st, 3rd and 4th innings.
Nolan Lott hit an RBI single in the 3rd and
Andrew Toy drove in a run with a hit in the 4th.
Dordt got on the board in the bottom of the 4th with a run, then tied the game with two runs in the 6th inning.
Nebraska Wesleyan broke open the game in the 7th inning as they plated three runs.
Pete Sitorius hit a 2-run single for the big hit of the inning, while
Andrew Toy scored on an error by the shortstop.
Jordyn Johnson got his first win of the season going 6.0 innings allowing two earned runs on six hits. Johnson struck out five and walked just one.
Jon Keck threw 2.1 innings of relief then
James McKain recorded the final two outs to get the save.
Nolan Lott and
Pete Sitorius each had three hits in the game for the Prairie Wolves who finished with 11 total hits.
