Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Sam Busboom threw a complete game 3-hit shutout as Nebraska Wesleyan defeated Morningside College, 2-0, in game one of a GPAC baseball doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 12) at NWU Field in Lincoln. Morningside came back to defeat the Prairie Wolves 20-6 in the second game.
NWU got a great at-bat from
Pete Sitorius in the bottom of the first in game one as he fouled off several pitches before hitting an RBI single to right field to put the Prairie Wolves ahead 1-0. The Prairie Wolves added another run in the 4th inning as
Chris Johnson singled up the middle to drive in
Chase Powers.
Those would be the only runs needed for Busboom as he was in control on the mound. The senior struck out three and walked three while allowing the three hits in his seven innings.
Game two was a different story as the Morningside bats came alive for 18 hits as they scored 20 runs to defeat the Prairie Wolves in a game that ended after seven innings due to the run rule.
NWU pulled within 4-2 in the third inning when
Colby McPike hit a two-run double. Morningside went back up by four in the next inning but NWU threatened again.
In the 4th inning, NWU loaded the bases with nobody out but got just one run on a single by
Jordan Watteyne. Lance Spongberg came in to pitch for Morningsidie and ended the threat.
Nate Clark was the story for the Mustangs as he went 4-5 with two home runs, two doubles and seven RBI.
NWU will now play again on Monday at Mount Marty College in a game that was moved from Sunday due to weather.
