NWU scored within the first minute of the match and the Prairie Wolves held Concordia out of the net until the final minute of match as Nebraska Wesleyan defeated the Bulldogs, 2-1, in GPAC women's soccer action Saturday (Oct. 12) in Seward.
Nebraska Wesleyan improves to 4-1-1 in GPAC, 7-2-3 overall and remains second in the league standings. Concordia drops back to 6-6-1, 2-3 GPAC.
It didn't take long for the Prairie Wolves to get on the board as Ashlee Slade scored a goal at the 0:51 mark of the match. That would be the lone goal of the first half for either team as NWU held Concordia without a shot attempt.
Less than five minutes into the second half, the Prairie Wolves struck again as Shannon Surber found the open net in the 49th minute.
The 2-0 lead stood until just 40 seconds were left on the clock. Jordan Donohoue scored for Concordia to spoil the shutout, but the Prairie Wolves still earned the 2-1 win.
NWU finished with seven total shots in the match, compared to six for Concordia.
The Prairie Wolves step out of conference on Tuesday (Oct. 15) when they travel to Central College.
