SHERMAN, Tex. – Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer scored twice in the first half and held Austin College scoreless for a 2-0 victory Sunday afternoon at the Pierce Complex. The Prairie Wolves got goals from
Kaysha Shagavah and
Reef Rohrs in what was a dominant performance over the Roos. Nebraska Wesleyan improved to 3-3-1 on the season with the victory. Austin fell to 1-3-2.
The Prairie Wolves held the Roos to six in the first half while posting eight of their own. Kaysha Shagavah opened the scoring in the fourth minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from Wil Tobaben. The goal was Shagavah's first of the season.
The Prairie Wolves doubled their lead late in the first half when Reef Rohrs scored in the 37th minute off an assist from Jayden Fullerton. Fullerton's header hit the crossbar moments before Rohrs finished the rebound for the goal. Both goals marked the first of Shagavah's and Rohrs' careers.
Nebraska Wesleyan kept the pressure on in the second half posting another nine shots to Austin's two. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half.
Nebraska Wesleyan controlled much of the offensive action throughout the match, finishing with a 17-13 advantage in shots and earning six corner kicks compared to two for Austin. Christian Lindseth made four saves to record his third shutout in goal.
Nebraska Wesleyan returns home Friday, Sept. 25, hosting Colorado College at Abel Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Lincoln.
