NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The Nebraska Wesleyan University men's soccer team fell to CCIW opponent North Central, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
With the loss, the Prarie Wolves drop to 1-2-1 to start the season, while the Cardinals move to 5-0-1.
North Central opened the scoring in the 20th minute off the body of Joseph Sargent. The Cardinals doubled their lead in the 37th minute. North Central capitalized on a corner kick and a failed clearance Lorenzo Monticelli collected the rebound and blasted it into the back of the net passed sophomore goalkeeper
Christian Lindseth.
North Central added one more goal in the 52nd minute. The Cardinals executed a counterattack that started in their defending third. A Cardinal attacker beat his defender to the cross and slotted it into the goal on a one-touch.
The Prairie Wolves' best chance came shortly after, as senior midfielder
Wil Tobaben ripped a shot on a free kick just outside the box, but the North Central goalkeeper made a diving stop.
North Central held the advantage in shots, 15-6, and shots on target, 7-2. The Cardinals also won the corner kick battle, 9-2. Lindseth tallied four saves for the Prairie Wolves.
The Prairie Wolves head to Iowa for a matchup with Cornell on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. and will be
