NEW ULM, Minn. — Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis closed out a three-match road trip through Iowa and Minnesota in emphatic fashion Saturday, sweeping Martin Luther 7-0 at the MLC Tennis Courts to improve to 2-4 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Prairie Wolves did not drop a set all afternoon. Nebraska Wesleyan took control early, winning all three doubles matches to grab the opening point and set the tone for what was to come. The top pairing of Ashton Rames and Sam Rademacher kicked things off with a 6-2 victory over Gideon Heins and Eli Stern. Riley Voss and Gavin Nichols followed with a 6-4 win over Abraham Schlomer and Isaiah Scharf at No. 2, and Ian Armbrust and Zac Briggs closed out the doubles sweep 6-2 over Silas Hillmer and Alexander Wrobel at No. 3 to put the Prairie Wolves ahead 1-0.
Singles went even smoother. Armbrust wasted no time getting Nebraska Wesleyan on the board, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Wrobel on court six to push the lead to 2-0. Nichols followed on court two with a commanding 6-3, 6-0 win over Heins to make it 3-0. Briggs then secured the team's first win of the road trip with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Scharf on court three.
From there, the remaining four matches all went in Nebraska Wesleyan's favor without dropping a set. Voss topped Stern 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles in the most competitive match of the day. Rames handled Schlomer 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4. Glenn McChristian came through at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Hillmer, and Armbrust rounded out the singles sweep for the final margin of 7-0.
The road trip finale was a commanding performance from a Nebraska Wesleyan squad that looked sharp across all seven positions. The Prairie Wolves went 1-2 on the three-match swing through Minnesota but closed the trip with their best tennis of the road stretch.
