Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan University men's tennis team stormed past Wartburg College 5-2 Monday in its second-to-last regular season match. The Prairie Wolves improved to 6-8 overall and 4-3 in American Rivers Conference play with the win. Wartburg fell to 12-14 overall and 5-2 in league action.
Nebraska Wesleyan won two of three doubles matches to set the tone early. The duo of Riley Voss and Gavin Nichols picked up a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, and Ian Armbrust and Zac Briggs closed things out with a dominant 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.
The Prairie Wolves then carried that momentum into singles play, collecting four of six victories to secure the match. Gavin Nichols got things started at No. 2 singles with a 7-6, 6-1 win over John Gustafson. Zac Briggs followed at No. 3 with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Milan Lecic. Ashton Rames delivered the grittiest performance of the day at No. 4, rallying from a set down to edge Robert Matera 6-1, 4-6, 7-6, and Ian Armbrust closed things out at No. 6 with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 comeback win over Landon Murch.
The Prairie Wolves will play host to No. 52 Coe College on Friday at the Sid & Hazel Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. The final regular season match of the season is set to start at 4:00 P.M.
