DECORAH, Iowa - Nebraska Wesleyan athletes secured one individual conference title and earned 14 all-conference honors at the American Rivers Indoor Track & Field Championships at Luther College on Friday, Feb. 27 and Saturday, Feb. 28.
The Prairie Wolves captured one individual title and earned 14 All-Conference honors. The men placed third with 106.5 points, their highest finish since 2019, while the women matched last year's effort with a fourth-place team finish.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The weekend opened with a statement.
Sam Clements wasted no time setting the tone, winning the men's shot put in the first event of the meet Friday. His throw of 17.69 meters (58 feet, ½ inch) not only secured gold but moved him to second all-time in program history and into fifth nationally this season. Teammate Colin Wojtkiewicz joined him on the podium with a third-place finish.
Reed Emsick continued a breakthrough indoor campaign, finishing runner-up in the 800 meters with a converted time of 1:50.29, the second-fastest mark in school history and fourth-best in Division III this season. The transfer from Nebraska-Kearney was named the conference's Rookie of the Year and also earned All-Conference honors as part of the third-place distance medley relay team alongside Brennan Steenson, Alex Ienn and Conner Ross.
Ienn and Steenson added to their medal haul in the 4x800-meter relay, teaming with Lucas Steuter and Coleman Keck for a runner-up finish.
McClainn Meyer placed second in the 400 meters, converting to 48.82, ninth on the program's all-time list, while Eli Etherton (60-meter hurdles) and Ghaith Taha (60 meters) each secured silver medals. Noah Thomas lowered his own freshman record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:50.84.
The men's depth proved decisive. Nebraska Wesleyan consistently placed multiple athletes in scoring positions, particularly in the throws and middle-distance events, building momentum through steady podium finishes rather than relying on a single event sweep.
On the women's side, Chloe Mooberry delivered a standout weekend with two medals. The junior earned silver in the long jump with a leap of 5.57 meters (18-3.25) and returned to help the 4x400-meter relay team of Ainsley Galyen, Raegan Levi and McKenna Smith finish third in 3:57.53.
Freshman Angelina Schademann impressed in her conference debut, clearing 3.00 meters (9-10) to place third in the pole vault. Lyndzie Bosquez added a bronze medal in the weight throw with a mark of 16.73 meters (54-10.75), while Kaylee Taylor capped her weekend with a third-place finish in the triple jump after scoring in the pentathlon Friday.
The throws group made its presence known throughout the meet, with five Prairie Wolves placing in the top eight in the women's weight throw. Makenna Meyer set a freshman program record in the event at 53-7.75.
