Lincoln, NE - Nebraska Wesleyan baseball wrapped up its four game season opening series against Grinnell, Saturday afternoon. The Prairie Wolves won the first game of the day 3-0, but dropped the second 5-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
Nebraska Wesleyan used a dominant, complete game pitching effort from
Garrett Walsh and timely offense to earn a 3-0 victory in the first game of the doubleheader. The first four innings of the game saw both offenses struggle to generate momentum as the teams combined for three hits. The Prairie Wolves got on the board first with back-to-back two out doubles from
Jaxon Volkmer and
Brayden Harvey in the fifth inning. NWU would extend its lead to 3-0 in the sixth courtesy of RBIs from
Cohle Sherman and
Gavin Crogg.

GAME TWO
Nebraska Wesleyan continued to roll offensively in the early stages of the second game, as
Duncan Ortega singled and drove in
Easton Johnson to put NWU ahead 1-0. Grinnell would answer with a run in the top of the second, but
Easton Johnson managed to score on the wild pitch and give the Prairie Wolves a 2-1 lead in the third inning. After two scoreless innings, Grinnell took the lead for good in a three run sixth. The Pioneers would add an insurance run in the eighth and go on to win 5-2. Despite the loss,
Jack Starr pitched five solid innings, allowing just five hits and limited the Pioneer offense to four runs.
