SEWARD, Neb. — Nebraska Wesleyan opened the 2026 spring season Monday with a 7-0 setback to Concordia University, Nebraska at Bulldog Tennis Courts. Competing outdoors in unseasonably warm February weather, the Prairie Wolves battled through tight moments despite the final margin.
Concordia (4-0) secured the doubles point with wins on all three courts to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs struck first at No. 1 doubles, where Ian Armbrust and Sam Rademacher fell 6-2 to Nick Velders and Benjamin Chisholm. Concordia added a 6-2 win at No. 2 and a 6-1 decision at No. 3 to complete the sweep.
In singles, Hugo Fuentes Gomez gave the hosts a 2-0 cushion with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Ashton Rames at the top spot.
Benjamin Chisholm extended the lead at No. 3 singles, defeating Zac Briggs 6-1, 6-0.
Daniel Caballeros followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Glenn McChristian at No. 4 to push the margin to 4-0.
Riley Voss dropped a 6-1, 6-3 match to Leonardo Lopez Aliaga at No. 5, clinching the team victory for Concordia.
The most competitive match came at No. 2, where sophomore Gavin Nichols (Platte City, Missouri) rebounded from a first-set loss to take the second 6-1 against Velders. Nichols forced a 10-point tiebreak in lieu of a third set before falling 10-5. At No. 6, Sam Rademacher dropped a tight 7-6 (7-2) second set after a 6-2 opening set loss.
