Dubuque, IA - Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball fell to Loras Saturday afternoon, 68-40. The loss moves NWU to 4-19 overall and 1-13 in the American Rivers Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter: Loras burst out to a quick 15-6 advantage over the opening 10 minutes of the game with an
Anastyn Pettlon and a
Maddie Demke lay up being the lone made field goals for NWU.
Second Quarter: Pettlon and Demke continued to pace the Black and Gold offensively in the second quarter, combing to score 13 of NWU's 16 points. Pettlon led the way with a three and two lay ups, while Demke drove hard to the basket to add two lay ups while also draining a mid range jump shot. However, the Prairie Wolves were unable to get enough stops to cut into the deficit as Loras kept their lead at nine points as the game entered half time.
Third Quarter: The Duhawks blitzed Nebraska Wesleyan early in the third quarter, scoring 16 of the first 18 points to grow their lead from nine to 23. The Black and Gold attempted to mount a comeback with
Brynn Sebek knocking down a three, but the Duhawks went on to outscore the Prairie Wolves 10-5 over the final four minutes of the period.
Fourth Quarter: Nebraska Wesleyan refused to go quietly and fought to the last second as Sebek made another three while
Rhyanne Mackling and
Maddie Demke added three and two points respectively. However, their efforts were not enough as Loras maintained their lead and secured a 68-40 win.
