LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska Wesleyan saw a tightly contested conference game slip away late Wednesday night, falling 61-40 to Simpson in American Rivers Conference action at Snyder Arena. The Prairie Wolves traded momentum throughout the first half before the Storm used a strong second-half push to secure the road win.
Nebraska Wesleyan dropped to 3-11 overall and 0-5 in league play, while Simpson improved to 7-6 and 3-1 in the A-R-C.
How It Happened
First Quarter
Simpson opened the game with an 11-9 edge before Nebraska Wesleyan responded with an 8-0 run. Peyton Tritz capped the surge with a pair of free throws, giving the Prairie Wolves a 17-11 lead with 1:53 remaining.
Second Quarter
The Storm answered with a 10-0 run to go in front 21-17, their largest lead of the half. Brynn Sebek knocked down a three to pull Nebraska Wesleyan within one, then later hit a step-back three to tie the game. Simpson closed the half with a late basket to take a 29-27 advantage into the break.
Third Quarter
Anastyn Pettlon and Sebek opened the half with back-to-back three-pointers to give Nebraska Wesleyan a 33-31 lead. Simpson regained control midway through the quarter, using inside scoring to stretch the margin. The Storm led 48-37 heading into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
Nebraska Wesleyan battled early, but shots were hard to come by. Carney Black scored the Prairie Wolves' first points of the quarter on a floater with 4:10 remaining. Simpson closed the game on a late run to pull away and secure the 61-40 win.
