Wrestling Closes Dual Season at A-R-C Pod in Knight Fieldhouse

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan closed the dual portion of its season Saturday afternoon, hosting the American Rivers Conference pod duals inside Knight Fieldhouse against a stacked field that featured No. 5 Loras, No. 7 Coe, No. 12 Luther and Simpson.

The Prairie Wolves went 0-4 on the day, falling to Simpson (31-20), No. 5 Loras (46-4), No. 12 Luther (53-6) and No. 7 Coe (48-6), moving to 3-7 overall and 1-7 in A-R-C action.

Despite the tough slate, Nebraska Wesleyan showed flashes throughout the afternoon. Quinton Chavez (Scottsbluff, Neb.), Robbie Fisher (Crofton, Neb.) and Emilio Chavez (Firestone, Colo.) each finished 2-2 on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Nebraska Wesleyan opened the pod against Simpson with momentum. Quinton Chavez set the tone immediately at 125 pounds, scoring a takedown before pinning Brody Hufford just 46 seconds into the first period for the first win of the day. The Prairie Wolves followed with back-to-back victories, including an 8-7 decision by Christopher McClanahan at 133 and a dominant technical fall from Fisher at 141.

After Simpson claimed the next three bouts, Emilio Chavez swung the dual back in Nebraska Wesleyan's favor, pinning Connor Jackson in just 56 seconds at 174. The Storm, however, closed strong, winning the final three matches to escape with a 31-20 victory.

In the second dual, Nebraska Wesleyan faced No. 5 Loras. Fisher delivered the lone Prairie Wolf win in an offensive showcase at 141 pounds, earning a 15-5 major decision over Andrew Weiss. The Duhawks claimed the remaining nine bouts to secure the 46-4 win and improve to 15-2 on the season.

The Prairie Wolves returned to the mat against No. 12 Luther, where Quinton Chavez again provided an early spark. Chavez pinned Anthony Perez in 1:27 at 125 to open the dual. Luther responded with bonus-point victories in the next nine matches to pull away for the 53-6 decision.

Nebraska Wesleyan closed the day against No. 7 Coe, with Emilio Chavez delivering the highlight of the final dual. Chavez pinned Kael Kurtz in 1:46 at 174 pounds for the Prairie Wolves' only points of the match. Coe controlled the remaining bouts to post a 48-6 win.

Simpson finished the day at 4-6 overall, while Loras improved to 15-2. Coe moved to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in conference action, and Luther left Lincoln at 10-7 overall and 2-3 in the A-R-C.

Saturday's pod marked the final dual competitions of the season for the Prairie Wolves, who now turn their focus toward postseason preparation. The Prairie Wolves will travel to Wheaton, IL next weekend for the Pete Wilson Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
