Women's Swimming Earns Pool Records, Claims Victory in Dual with Morningside

Sioux City, IA - Nebraska Wesleyan women's swimming set three pool records while earning a 188-35 victory over Morningside Saturday. With the win, NWU improved to 5-0 in dual meets. The Prairie Wolf men also competed, but were dealt a close 147-107 loss. 

POOL RECORDS
Nebraska Wesleyan set two pool records on Saturday. In the women's 50 free style, both Elena Lazzaretto and Lydi O'Neal surpassed previous record holder Cheyenne Rova's time of 24.65. O'Neal set the record in 23.96, while Lazaretto followed close behind at 24.24. In the 100 free style, junior Bea Massa Macon cruised to victory, touching the wall in 52.86 seconds, setting the record by over half a second. 

TOP FINISHES
WOMEN

The Prairie Wolf women claimed victory in all 14 events contested Saturday. In individual races, the Black and Gold were dominant, most notably in the 200 freestyle, where Lydi O'Neal claimed first, while her teammates took places two through seven. The Prairie Wolves also swept the podium in the after mentioned 50 and 100 freestyles. Hanna Gibbs led the way in the 100 butterfly, with her teammates Ryleigh Schroeter, Wesley Hill, and Kenzie Warren following close behind in second, third, and fourth. In the 100 breaststroke, Elena Lazzaretto earned first, with her time of 1:07.47 nearly setting a new school record. Lazaretto would also claim victory in the 400 IM. Meanwhile, Sam Fox, Leslie Sweeney, and Wesley Hill took gold in the 200 backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke. In the longer events, NWU continued its domination, as Sophia Daigle and Sydney Leslie each securing first place finishes in the 500 and 1,000. The Prairie Wolf women won both the 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay to cap off a dominant 188-35 performance.

MEN
Nebraska Wesleyan earned first in five of the 14 events. Mattia Rosatelli added two more victories to an already historic season with wins in the 100 breaststroke and 400 IM. Caleb Courtney followed suit in the 200 freestyle. In the distance events, Zachary Cantorna earned first in the 500 freestyle, while Jaryd Holton earned gold in the 1,000 freestyle.

UP NEXT
Nebraska Wesleyan will compete at the 2026 American Rivers Conference Swim and Dive Championships on Wednesday, February 18th, through Saturday, February 21st. The meet will be held at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
