LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska Wesleyan couldn't get much going on a chilly Saturday afternoon, falling 86-46 against Loras on Jan. 17, 2025, at Snyder Arena. Turnovers and a scorching opposing offense plagued the Prairie Wolves in their worst loss of the season, dropping to 4-12 on the year.
How It Happened
First Quarter
An early three-pointer and a couple of baskets got the Prairie Wolves out to an 8-4 lead early. It was all Loras after that. The Duhawks closed the first quarter on a 19-3 run and rode their momentum for the rest of the game. Loras shot 10-for-19 in the quarter with 20 points in the paint.
Second Quarter
Nebraska Wesleyan's offensive struggles began to snowball as Loras forced seven turnovers in the second quarter. The Prairie Wolves quickly found themselves down a large deficit, as Loras' lead ballooned to 25 as the halftime buzzer sounded. NWU managed just to score six second-quarter points and went into the locker room trailing 42-17.
Third Quarter
Despite their first-half struggles, the Prairie Wolves came out of the locker room ready to continue fighting. NWU matched Loras' physicality, driving to the hoop while battling through contact. The Prairie Wolves had eight trips to the free-throw line and shot 6-for-8, doubling the Duhawks' free-throw numbers for the quarter. However, Loras' offense couldn't miss in the second half. The Duhawks shot 8-for-15 and nailed four 3-pointers in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Turnovers came back to bite NWU in the fourth quarter. Seven giveaways and 21 more points allowed led the Prairie Wolves to their worst loss of the season. The Duhawks scored their season high of 86 points and shot 33-71 as they rolled to the conference win.
