LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Nebraska Wesleyan's distance squad opened the 2025 outdoor track and field season with a solid showing at the USM Distance Festival, hosted by the University of Saint Mary. Competing against a mix of NCAA and NAIA programs, the Prairie Wolves showcased depth and promise across multiple events, setting the tone for the outdoor campaign.
How It Happened
The men's 1500m saw sophomore Alex Ienn lead the way, clocking a time of 4:14.02 to finish 40th overall. Freshman Coleman Keck followed closely, posting a 4:22.92 in his collegiate outdoor debut. On the women's side, junior Delaney Vacek turned in a strong performance, finishing 20th with a time of 5:05.39. Freshman Grace Pyle (5:43.97) and junior Lanae Aerts (6:02.27) also competed, gaining valuable experience in their first outdoor meet of the year.
In the men's 5000m, the Prairie Wolves displayed impressive depth. Freshman Dylan Lender led the charge, finishing 27th with a time of 15:37.20. Sophomore Thomas Vasquez was close behind in 30th (15:41.24), while classmate Evan Brown rounded out the top trio with a 15:59.35. Freshmen Kyle Finney (16:51.17) and Cade Green (17:26.20) also competed, showing promise for the future.
The women's 5000m was a highlight for Nebraska Wesleyan, with junior Avary Byers leading the way in 11th place with a time of 18:54.39. Sophomore Kari Mathsen was close behind in 15th (18:58.91), while freshman Payton Jorczak cracked the top 20 with a 19:40.56. Freshmen Dani Ahrens (20:19.94), Reese Kozisek (20:21.73), and Mira Comstock (23:23.10) also competed, showcasing the team's young talent.
