BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Nebraska Wesleyan track and field teams delivered a strong performance at the SDSU Indoor Classic over the weekend, highlighted by event wins, school records, and several standout performances. The Prairie Wolves competed against a stacked field, showcasing their depth and talent across multiple events.
How It Happened
Men's Track & Field
The men's team had a stellar weekend, led by Colin Wojtkiewicz, who dominated the shot put with a season-best throw of 16.24 meters (53' 3.50") to win the event. Wojtkiewicz also made waves in the weight throw, finishing fourth with a mark of 17.59 meters (57' 8.50"), which ranks sixth in school history and 25th nationally.
Eric Lenz stole the show in the weight throw, breaking the school record with a massive toss of 18.48 meters (60' 7.75"). Lenz's performance not only secured him second place in the event but claimed him the school record in the event.
On the track, Noah Smith advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, finishing fifth overall with a time of 8.38 seconds. The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Morgan Conner, McClain Meyer, Connor Plahn, and Jackson Feauto turned in a strong performance, clocking 3:16.96 to finish fifth. Their time converts to 3:20.11, placing them 12th nationally.
In the high jump, Eli Mackowski cleared 2.00 meters (6' 6.75") to finish second, while James Bruner and Benjamin Cumpston also delivered solid performances, clearing 1.90 meters (6' 2.75") and 1.85 meters (6' 0.75"), respectively.
Women's Track & Field
The women's team was equally impressive, with Ja'Dein Madison leading the way in the weight throw. Madison won the event with a season-best throw of 16.60 meters (54' 5.50"), which ranks 23rd nationally. Kaelyn Means followed closely behind, finishing second with a mark of 16.33 meters (53' 7.00").
Emmilly Berglund continued the Prairie Wolves' dominance in the throwing events, winning the shot put with a throw of 13.53 meters (44' 4.75"). Berglund's performance ranks eighth in school history and 25th nationally.
On the track, Natalie Cummins and Raegan Levi led the way in the 200 meters, finishing 12th and 13th with times of 26.11 and 26.14 seconds, respectively. In the 800 meters, Delaney Vacek turned in a strong performance, finishing 28th with a time of 2:20.94.
The women's pole vault saw Emily Druse clear 3.45 meters (11' 3.75") to finish eighth, while Libby Driver added a 15th-place finish with a mark of 2.85 meters (9' 4.25").
