LINCOLN, Neb. - The Nebraska Wesleyan University men's wrestling team wrapped up the 2025 portion of its schedule Saturday morning inside Knight Fieldhouse, hosting a snowy dual triangular that featured two very different results. The Prairie Wolves opened the day with a narrow 26-20 setback to American Rivers Conference rival Dubuque before responding in emphatic fashion with a 47-11 victory over Westminster (Mo.) to close the calendar year on a high note.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Nebraska Wesleyan vs. Dubuque
The morning began with energy despite winter weather outside, and the Prairie Wolves struck first. Quinton Chavez wasted no time at 125 pounds, igniting the crowd with a first-period fall at the 1:25 mark to give Nebraska Wesleyan an early lead.
Momentum continued briefly as Robbie Fisher delivered a dominant technical fall at 141 (16-1), followed by Nathan Rowden's methodical major decision at 149 (11-0), keeping the dual tight through the middle weights. Casey Kinnell added another highlight at 184, overwhelming his opponent in a 17-1 technical fall that kept Nebraska Wesleyan within striking distance heading into the final bouts.
Dubuque, however, capitalized at key moments, earning bonus points at 157, 174, and 285 to swing the dual. The decisive blow came in the heavyweight match, where the Spartans secured a fall to seal the 26-20 final despite a gritty Prairie Wolf effort throughout the lineup.
Nebraska Wesleyan vs. Westminster
Nebraska Wesleyan wasted no time turning the page in the second dual, putting together its most complete team performance of the season. Chavez again set the tone at 125, recording another fall to start a run that saw the Prairie Wolves rack up bonus points at nearly every weight.
Cy Peterson responded in a big way at 157, bouncing back with a pin of his own, while Emilio Chavez controlled the action at 174 with a technical fall. Donovan Mann brought the dual to an emphatic close at 285, flattening his opponent in quick fashion to punctuate a dominant Nebraska Wesleyan win.
In total, the Prairie Wolves collected three falls, a technical fall, and multiple forfeits from Westminster's open weights, controlling the dual from start to finish and leaving little doubt.
