Men's Soccer to Face Off against Central in A-R-C Tournament Quarterfinal

Lincoln, NE - The No. 5 seed Nebraska Wesleyan University men's soccer team travels to face the No. 4 seed Central College Dutch in the First Round of the A-R-C Tournament. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1st.

LAST TIME OUT

The Prairie Wolves ended the regular season with a shut out win against Coe College last Tuesday. Nebraska Wesleyan came out strong in the first half, scoring two goals and keeping the Kohawks to zero. The black and gold continued their strong offensive attack in the second half, with Connor Currence scoring his first goal of the season to solidify the win for NWU. This win punched Nebraska Wesleyan's ticket into the A-R-C tournament, giving them momentum for the upcoming game. 

REGULAR SEASON vs THE DUTCH

Central 3, Nebraska Wesleyan 2 (10/18/25)

At home this season, Nebraska Wesleyan led the Dutch, scoring the first two goals of the game. However, Central was able to come back in the second half, scoring three goals to take the win. 

The Prairie Wolves were able to take the lead early due to a goal by Max Matthies. The offense stayed strong on both sides for the remainder of the half with shots between the two teams. 

The second goal for NWU came early in the second half due to a goal by Franklyn Herasme after being passed the ball by Matthies. 

The Dutch looked unbothered, making substitutions that would result in two goals in three minutes to make the score and even 2-2. 

The two teams went back-and-forth, totaling seven shots over the next 22 minutes. Central would deliver the final blow in the 89th minute, winning the game 3-2.

The two squads showed great fight and tenacity, battling hard and showing how evenly matched they can be offensively. 

A LOOK AT NEBRASKA WESLEYAN
  • Nebraska Wesleyan went 6-6-5 overall in the regular season and posted a 4-4-2 record in the A-R-C. The Prairie Wolves earned the No. 5 seed in the A-R-C Tournament after losing to the Dutch earlier this season.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan displays a strong front line with Max Matthies and Franklyn Herasme, totaling thirteen goals and five assists. 
  • Three separate Prairie Wolves have scored three or more goals. 
  • The Prairie Wolves have been successful in their last three games, winning two and drawing one, showing how impactful their offense can be, and they will be entering the tournament with their offense leading the team. 
SCOUTING CENTRAL
  • Central finished their season with a 8-3-5 overall record and a 4-1-3 record in the A-R-C. The Dutch's win against the Prairie Wolves helped solidify their hosting of the first round.
  • The Dutch have taken more shots than their opponents, taking 216 compared to 128 from opponents, showing off both their offensive and defensive power. 
  • Central's keeper Morgan Finkenbinder finished the regular season second in shutouts per game and third in goals against average in the conference.
  • Central ended their season with a 0-0 tie against Loras. 
PRAIRIE WOLVES TO WATCH
  • Forward Max Matthies has been a key component to the Prairie Wolves' success, leading the team in goals, assists, points, shots and shots on goal. 
  • Forward Franklyn Herasme is another offensive powerhouse for Nebraska Wesleyan this season. With six goals and two assists, including one against the Dutch, he will be a threat in the upcoming game. 
  • The Prairie Wolves have two other Prairie Wolves totaling three assists on the season. Thomas Pisasale and Henry Spethman all have three assists, demonstrating the overall talent and skill NWU has to offer.
