Prairie Wolves Claim First Win of the Year with Shutout of Cobbers

LINCOLN, Neb. – The men's soccer team is in the win column after George Casady's goal in the 39th minute lifted NWU men's soccer to a 1-0 win over Concordia (MN) Sunday at Abel Stadium.

The Prairie Wolves (1-0-1) grabbed the win in front of a home-opener crowd of 262 and laid claim to the series win for the sixth straight years. It is the best stretch for the Prairie Wolves in the series.

Concordia (MN) slipped to 0-2-1 with the defeat.

Cassady's tally, the first of his career, came after NWU fired a ball up the field from the backline. The ball came to loose ball fell to Owen Glogowski, who pushed it forward to Hayden Byarlay, who spun a pass into the box, where Casady flicked it home to give NWU a lead it would never relinquish.

Concordia (MN) best chance came with six minutes before the final whistle, when a throw in came into the box and was nearly headed in if it wasn't for a great Christian Lindseth save.

NWU goalkeeper Chrisitan Lindseth made two saves to secure his second shutout as a Prairie Wolf. Nebraska Wesleyan outshot Concordia (MN) 14-10 overall and held a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Concordia (MN) goalkeeper Dante Kummer turned made five saves for the Cobbers.

NWU returns to the road for a Friday matchup at Milwaukee School of Engineering.
