LINCOLN, Neb. (September 21, 2023) – Nebraska Wesleyan men's tennis competed in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Individual Championships hosted by Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on September 20th and 21st. The tournament featured a strong field across five singles flights and three doubles flights, with medals awarded in each category.
Singles
A-Singles
Jacob Balfany reached the round of 16 in Flight A.
B-Singles
Gavin Nicholas reached the semifinals in Flight B with an impressive run, eventually securing third place. He showed resilience in each match, falling just short of the championship round but earning a podium finish.
C-Singles
Ian Armbrust and Sam Rademacher both fell in their first match in Flight C.
D-Singles
In Flight D, Tyler Blair represented Nebraska Wesleyan, reaching the semifinals. Although he faced a challenging opponent in the final stages, he was able to secure fourth place. Alvaro Pascual also made the quarterfinals in Flight D.
E-Singles
Senior Connor Kelley fell in the round of 16 in Flight E.
Doubles
A-Doubles
Nebraska Wesleyan's top doubles team, Nicholas and Balfany, reached the quarterfinals in Flight A but fell short against a tough Luther duo in a close match.
B-Doubles
Sam Rademacher and Tyler Blair paired up in Flight B doubles, making a run into the round of 16 before losing to a duo from Wartburg.
Flight C
In Flight C doubles, Nebraska Wesleyan's pairing of Alvaro Pascual and Daniel Berhardson shone throughout the tournament, claiming the C-Doubles Championship. In an all-Nebraska Wesleyan final, Pascual and Berhardson bested teammates Ian Armbrust and Connor Kelley in a thrilling match to win the title.
