Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan University men's tennis put up a strong fight against Doane University but ultimately fell 4-2 on Tuesday. The Prairie Wolves secured the doubles point and saw a standout performance from
Gavin Nichols in singles play, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Tigers in a closely contested match.
In doubles, NWU earned a crucial point by taking two out of the three matches. The duo of
Jacob Balfany and
Gavin Nichols delivered a solid 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles over Infante and Purizaca, while
Glenn McChristian and ian Armbrust battled to a 7-6 (7-4) victory at No. 3 doubles against Avila and Adams. Despite a valiant effort, the team of
Sam Rademacher and
Tyler Blair came up just short in a tiebreaker, falling 6-7 (5-7) to Hartman and Dassel at the No. 2 spot.
In singles play,
Gavin Nichols earned his biggest win of the season, defeating Infante 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. However, despite the bright spots, the Prairie Wolves struggled in other matches. Balfany was defeated by Purizaca 1-6, 0-6 at No. 1 singles, and Armbrust and Rademacher both fell in third-set tiebreakers at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
